If you know anything about weddings then you’ve heard of Carol Hannah Bridal Gowns. Similarly, if you know anything about wedding photography, then you know about Traveling Shoots with Taylor.
Traveling Shoots with Taylor
Taylor is a Dallas based makeup and hair stylist at Taylor Glam. Somehow she ventured into hosting and styling beautiful styled shoots locally and internationally. Taylor is amazing at what she does, her shoots feature talented florists, stylists, decor companies , bakeries and bridal gown companies. February 9th was my first styled shoot with Taylor. This was somewhat of a mini shoot, small and intimate with about 10-12 photographers throughout the day. Her styled shoot brand, Traveling Shoots with Taylor has a Facebook group with many talented people waiting and excited for every styled shoot that she hosts.
This particular shoot was a simplistic elegance themed editorial shoot in Dallas, Texas. The Studio, Space on Southside , is a natural light 2-story studio featuring white walls, large windows and concrete floors. The upstairs area can be used for a boudoir session or additional shooting space. The studio is located in the known Deep Ellum area of Dallas and has somewhat of a urban feel.
August The Model
Our model, August was perfect for the shoot. Her hair was styled in a blunt short brown bob, and her makeup was classic and simple. August really made the shoot, which is any photographers dream. If you’re not familiar with editorial photography, editorial photography refers to the pictures in a magazine that aren’t ads. The photographs that go along with the articles. In my opinion it’s more of telling a story without words. With this in mind, I knew I wanted to tell a short story with my images, show personality and the true essence of the her dress.
Carol Hannah Bridal
Taylor partnered with Carol Hannah Bridal for this shoot. The chosen dress was a sleeveless and lightweight tool dress. Carol Hannah Bridal launched in 2009 and is known for whimsical gowns with fluid movement, innovative textiles, and unique detailing. The Carol Hannah bride is bold in her choices, adventurous in her style, and a heck of a lot of fun. Carol Hannah Whitfield (or CH) is a transplanted gal from South Carolina and a self taught designer living in NYC. Their flagship store is also located in NYC. I definitely wanted to show this in our featured dress.
Prim and Lovely
Prim and Lovely is a Dallas based Floral company, they put together the floral background for the shoot. They definitely made it look easy. The decor consisted of roses, a variety of flowers and a assortment of greenery. Colors included blushes, pinks, yellows and greens. Prim and Lovely is owned by Elise, she based the floral design studio’s beliefs on making a couple’s day one-of-a-kind and different than anyone else’s big day. She believes that it is important to custom-tailor each and every detail of a couple’s wedding that they feel like they are reliving their love story throughout their wedding!
I think all photographers should participate in styled shoots. There is a support group of photographers and its a easy and non threatning way of learning and practicing. It’s also a great way to gain images for your portfolio, they can also be submitted to magazines and blogs to gain yourself more exposure.
For those that aren’t familiar with styled shoots, they are photo shoots put on to showcase products and / or obtain portfolio images. They are mainly used for weddings. They may feature a fake bride, table, decor, floral arrangements and are very helpful to communicate new and upcoming trends. If you happen to be interested in any of Taylor’s shoots, please find her Facebook Group at Traveling Shoots with Taylor, she is also available on Instagram.- Lavishly Lux
